We are proud to support HUGS (Help, Understanding & Group Support), a nonprofit that has been supporting Hawaii’s families with children facing life-threatening illnesses for over 15 years.
What sets HUGS apart is that they are a completely local organization, dedicated to not only ill keiki but also to their parents, guardians, and siblings. Their mission is to connect families who face similar challenges, providing peer support and resources to help navigate the difficult journey of caring for a seriously ill child. Every donation made to HUGS stays within Hawaii, supporting local families and strengthening our community.
HUGS is most proud of the way they bring families together, creating a network of support that goes beyond the hospital room. One heartwarming moment that stands out was when a HUGS mom asked her son, now in remission from cancer, what he remembered most about his illness. Instead of recalling the hardship of treatments, he remembered the joy of attending HUGS Respite nights and receiving visits from the HUGS team. It’s moments like these that underscore the profound impact HUGS has on the families they serve.
Looking ahead, HUGS envisions continuing their mission and expanding their ‘ohana, so that every family in Hawaii with a seriously ill child knows they are not alone. We are honored to have HUGS as a client and proud supporters of the incredible work they do.
