LMS Walkthrough and Underwriting Updates with Maribel Lara
Maribel will provide a walkthrough of the Learning Management System available to insureds and discuss recent updates to underwriting guidelines. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of risk education tools and policy changes affecting A/E coverage.
Hawai‘i Legislative and Legal Updates + Live Q&A with Frank Goto
Frank will present a legal update covering recent legislative developments and case law impacting the design and construction industry. Their session will focus on liability trends and contract considerations for architects and engineers. Following the presentation, panelists will be available for a live Q&A to address audience questions.

Shaun Franklin: Risk Consultant at AXA XL Insurance
Shaun is a licensed engineer and risk management consultant who works with A/E firms to align project delivery, operations, and innovation with strategic goals. He brings over 20 years of experience from a regional structural engineering firm, where he advanced from design engineer to executive leadership. Shaun specializes in helping design professionals assess and manage operational risk. He holds an M.B.A. from Colorado State University and an M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of Illinois.
Maribel Lara: Underwriter at AXA XL Insurance
Maribel is a senior underwriter with over 20 years of experience in A/E professional liability. She works closely with insureds to assess risk, manage coverage, and support firm growth through tailored underwriting solutions. She began her career at Royal & Sun Alliance and has since developed deep expertise in the A/E space. Maribel holds a B.S. in Management and International Entrepreneurship from CSU Monterey Bay.
Frank Goto: Attorney at Law Offices of Frank K. Goto, Jr.
Frank is an attorney with decades of experience representing architects and engineers in complex design and construction claims. He began his legal career in the Hawai‘i Attorney General’s Office, working on infrastructure-related litigation, and has been in private practice since 1988. Frank focuses on mediation, arbitration, trial defense, and contract review for design professionals. He earned his J.D. from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
